چکیده
Abstract Nowadays, the use of different classes materials in same structure is increased to keep pace with innovation and high structural performances. In this context, components made need be joined together a possible solution given by arc welding. Dissimilar welded joints must often able withstand fatigue loads; however, Design Standards provide strength categories only for homogeneous joints. The aim present paper compare behaviour EN-GJS-1050 austempered ductile iron-to-S355J2 steel dissimilar corresponding joints, as suggested International Recommendations. For purpose, experimental tests were performed on selection details. First, microstructure was identified metallographic analysis; micro-hardness measurements collected residual stress profiles obtained using X-ray diffraction technique Misalignments quantified all specimens. Then, have been number joint geometries subject axial or bending loadings tested as-welded conditions. fracture surfaces analysed locate crack nucleation sites.

Effects of Carbides on Fatigue Characteristics of Austempered Ductile Iron
Crack initiation and growth behaviour of an austempered ductile iron (ADI) austenitised at 800C and austempered at 260C has been assessed under three point bend fatigue conditions. Initiation sites have been identified as carbides remaining from the as cast ductile iron due to insufficient austenisation. The number of carbides cracking on loading to stresses greater than 275 MPa is critical in ...
متن کاملThe Influence of Ultrasonic Impact Treatment on Fatigue Behaviour of Welded Joints in High-strength Steel
The unabated growth of the steel industry and progressively increasing operating loads on metal structures generate a need for a search for optimum engineering solutions to improve the loadcarrying capacity and reduce metal consumption. One way of resolving this problem is to utilise high-strength steels. It is common knowledge however that the improvement of the steel strength is accompanied b...
متن کاملImproving Fatigue Strength of Welded Joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment
Enhancement in fatigue performance of welded joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT) was evaluated with large-scale rolled beam and built-up specimens having yield strength of 345 to 760 MPa. Eighteen rolled-beam specimens having welded details at cover plates and transverse stiffeners and eight built-up specimens having only transverse stiffener details were fatigue tested after treating t...
متن کاملFatigue Performance of Forged Steel and Ductile Cast Iron Crankshafts
Fatigue is the primary cause of failure of crankshafts in internal combustion engines. The cyclic loading conditions and the stress concentrations in the crank pin fillets are unavoidable, and can result in fatigue failure. The objectives of this study were to compare the fatigue behavior of forged steel and ductile iron crankshafts from a one-cylinder engine as well as to determine if the fati...
متن کاملFatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints
In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading. It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...
